For our viewers, give us an introduction on Maff Test
Ayye.. Im Maff Test aka Young Harvey, a product of Harvey World
(Harvey, IL). Spitta , Consciousness enthusiast, Serial entrepreneur,
1/2 owner of Lockout Records, Ville Life, & hustler by design.
How long have you been grinding in the music game? I’ve been at it in the
industry a while but what I focus on is the present and as of now we been
pushing with the latest single for the past few months with good results on that
slow & steady grind.
Besides being influenced to pursue this career in music, what are your other
aspirations that you are set out to do? I aspire to motivate people who thought
they had to settle with a life they didn’t vision for themselves and conquer some
of where I grew up by buying some of the blocks we claimed to actually own
houses on them.
Was there a specific moment in your life where you thought, “music is what I
want to do”? Definitely, initially after recording my 1st song and that was when i
realized it was one of the only things that was satisfying to the point of feeling
complete. I could narrow that down to a few moments and then follow it up with
every time Im doing music, it causes that “music is what i want to do” thought to
re visit.
What have been your struggles and triumphs in the business? Are you interested
in venturing to markets overseas? Struggles have been the streets and fast
money being a distraction at 1 point cuz it was always easy to have it now even
though it risked everything.
Triumphs have been relationships I’ve made along the way which are still good
and helpful now as well as sales on past projects, mixtape with Dj Kahled, major
press coverage, shows in front of thousands at spots like B96 summer bash,
production with grammy nominated producers, artist I have had the opportunity
to record with prior to & on this up coming project, and the knowledge I have
obtained along the way.
We are definitely interested in doing some things overseas, as a matter of fact, we
are starting some things now with some Australian & Uk outlets we teamed up
with.

Do you have other passions in life? My only passion aside music has only ever
been to be wake people up, motivate & be creative in a successful way. If we
talking about other interest then we gotta bring up, sneakers, motorhomes, cars
& opposing oppression to name a few.
Do you believe passion is an essential part of success? Passion is the driving
force of ambition how i see it, its a necessity to keep going if you ever forget your
why for a sec.
Tell us about your movement. My movement is revolved around growing, building
and weeding out while pushing forward. This approach has surprised even my
self with who’s showed interest from sponsors to peoples reaction to how we are
going about things once they realize what was done.
Do you think the advent of internet and all the new technology has helped your
music and independent musicians in general, or do you think it just creates a
mass of mediocre “copycats” who flood the web, making it difficult to distinguish
yourself? Overall & ultimately I say it definitely helps a lot, the uniqueness in an
artist can always shine regardless of copycats and you cant substitute nor
mistake hard work with mediocrity.
In your experience thus far, what is the best piece of advice in this business you
actually followed? And one you didn’t follow, but now know for sure that you
should have? Best advice would be not letting nobody determine the path you
take to the end goal. Advice I feel i might should have followed sooner would be
not to treat the industry no different than any other company I would start and run
What’s next for Maff Test? More music, shows, partnerships & a few surprises, In
sum though, whats next is to keep using in a unique way staying focused on
seeing things through.
